The Feather Project is based on the framework used by Claes Oldenburg in his “Ray Guns” pieces. I collected feathers from the ground of NYC, trying to determine varieties and establish a feather code for every borough of New York City. What I discovered was that collecting feathers was illegal do to the Migratory Bird Act, which protects birds from harm. In order to illustrate a parallel between avian and human conditions, I decided to add pieces of clothes from homeless people and my own, in the shapes of feathers, to develop a narrative about homelessness, illegality, migration and the price of bureaucracy.
